I was lucky enough to work with Sarah-Jane Matthews for three years as her colleague and manager at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.
During this time, Sarah-Jane, or SJ, carved out the Institute’s online presence by not only developing, but managing and coordinating the website. She also developed the Institute’s social media profile through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Instagram.
Sarah-Jane’s online skills are a true testament to her self-motivation, her knowledge of websites and social media were largely self taught and as up to date as any specialist in the area.
Beyond managing the website and our social media platforms, SJ also developed and implemented an online portal for QIMR Berghofer staff to access all media clips mentioning the Institute. This project showed not only great technical nous, but also a great understanding of the importance of internal communications.
She also demonstrated exceptional verbal and written communications skills. Sarah-Jane developed relationships with many different stakeholders throughout the Institute, thanks to her interpersonal skills and had a great knack for writing and editing as demonstrated through her writing for many part of the website and her coordination of the Institute’s weekly internal e-newsletter.
SJ is a quiet, but dedicated and diligent worker. Always supportive of her team and the wider organization around her, Sarah-Jane was always happy to lend a hand and help out on large projects or to relieve a very busy team member of some of their load.
Sarah-Jane is greatly missed here at QIMR Berghofer and I would have no hesitation in hiring her again if the opportunity presented itself. SJ would be a great addition to any work team and I wish her well wherever her career may take her.
